The recipients of the Lavender Community Awards were nominated and voted for online in the month of November. Winners demonstrate clear dedication and leadership by being either out or an ally, and working for the advancement of the community that is comprised of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and allied people. Without further ado, we are proud to present the recipients of the 2017 Lavender Community Awards.

A new national political action committee committed to electing transgender people into office is ramping up efforts in two Minneapolis city council races. The Trans United Fund has launched the BreakThrough Fund, a political action committee (PAC) that is partnering with OutFront Minnesota’s political arm to elect two Black transgender candidates to the Minneapolis City Council.

This case, filed in Todd County by Sheila Asmus against Lori Hagood, poses the problem of how parenthood is defined in cases of artificial insemination, where a couple legally could not marry at the time the child was conceived.

More than 200 people crowded into a meeting at the Minnesota Department of Education Wednesday to make their stances known about the department’s tool kit for “Safe and Supportive Schools for Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Students.” Opponents of the tool kit, led by the Minnesota Family Council, a conservative Christian coalition, showed up wearing red at the MDE offices in Roseville.
