Duluth-Superior Pride 2005
Mayor Bergson welcomes the GLBT, Queer, Allied, and Intersex community

For two years, Mayor Herb Bergson has served as the first Duluth mayor to publicly support the Duluth-Superior Pride. This year, he's encouraging participation in the celebration from across the state as a show of support.

Duluth-Superior Pride begins on Thursday, September 1 with a Mayor's Reception at The Depot. Mayor Bergson sent a letter explaining, "The bottom line is...I want you to know you are welcome here. Yes, I've taken some criticism for the changes.....but all those criticisms mean a lot less if you turn out in masses and respond to our 'red carpet' by enjoying a full weekend in Duluth."

Join OutFront Minnesota staff and volunteers in attending the reception, Saturday's festival, the parade, and the rest of the events. This year's Pride celebration includes a block party, bonfire, medallion hunt, fun run, and more. For information visit the Duluth-Superior Pride website and see why OUT Magazine recently named it the "Hottest" Small Town Pride festival.

Walk for Justice Update
Team member spotlight on Taina Maki

A model volunteer and savvy fundraiser, Taina Maki gets kudos this week as the star member of the OutFront Minnesota Walk for Justice Team. Taina is currently the second highest fundraiser on the team, having raised $455 so far for OutFront Minnesota. Regarding her webpage, Taina says, "I recently changed the photo on my website, showing the big group of happy LGBT families I camp with each summer, to remind people that the 'same-sex marriage' issue includes children. I’m walking because hundreds of thousands of children don’t have access to the safety net provided by parents who are legally married. And having been closely connected with OutFront Minnesota, I’m happy to be able to give back for all the hard work, long hours, and critical work its staff does every day on behalf of queer people and our families.”

OutFront Minnesota is thankful for Taina and all of our Walk for Justice team members for the work they're doing to raise money for a fair Minnesota. If you'd like to support the OutFront Minnesota Walk for Justice Team, click here, or visit a team member's personal website:
