Pride
Every
year the staff, interns, and volunteers of OutFront
Minnesota look forward to Pride Season because it gives
us the opportunity to meet and connect with lots of
people. It is critical to our work that we get a chance
to talk with people about all kinds of ways we can all
work together to create a better Minnesota for the GLBTA
communities. We will be attending Pride events all over
the state this summer, but this weekend gets the prize
for “Most Pride Event-Packed Weekend of the Summer!”
Keep an eye out for us wherever you celebrate Pride.
We’ll be in the green GET OUT t-shirts, asking you to
send postcards to your legislators, listening to your
concerns, or just chatting about politics and the state
of the world.

Thursday, June 23

– 8:00 PM: The Annual Itasca GLBT Pride Picnic
Grand Rapids, MN, Veterans Park Hwy 2
Stop
by the Grand Rapids celebration and let them know how
much you appreciate the great work they did in
countering the anti-marriage amendment this winter. When
the House Civil Law and Elections Committee held a
hearing and a vote on the Anti-Marriage Amendment in
Grand Rapids this winter, the Itasca GLBTA Alliance
organized a formidable opposition to the amendment. Ann
DeGroot, OutFront Minnesota's Executive Director, will
be attending the picnic to celebrate their great work.
Friday, June 24

- 10:30 PM: Uptown Pride Block Party
Presented by Bryant Lake Bowl and 89.3 The Current
Minneapolis, MN, corner of Lake Street and Bryant Avenue
This
is a free community event open to all. There will be
music by Tina Schlieske, All The Pretty Horses, Apraxia,
Ellis, The Bleeding Hickeys, and DJ Ebony & Ivory, as
well as performance art by JAO and Collective B-Boy
Sequel & Friends. Hosted by Minneapolis' favorite
burlesque show host Foxy Tann. Proceeds will benefit the
Fringe Festival. Stop by the OutFront Minnesota table to
be the first to get a great new button, order a t-shirt,
and do something political.

Day: Twin Cities Festival of Pride
Minneapolis, MN, Loring Park
Stop
by OutFront Minnesota's Pride Pavilion and say hello.
We’ll be in the same location as last year—just look for
the big green and white tent! While you’re there, vote
in our Pride Poll, pick up a cup of iced Dunn Bros
coffee or lemonade, get a cool button, order a GET OUT
shirt, sign a postcard to your legislator, become a
card-carrying member, or just chat us up. To get

equality answered, check out our
schedule of staff availability for informal Q&A.

Meet
in front of the Walker Art Center at 1750 Hennepin
Avenue in Minneapolis and march, march, march. Everyone
is welcome! OutFront Minnesota volunteers and staff will
join the march and will be have postcards to sign and
send to your legislators.

All Day: Twin Cities Festival of Pride

Another day of fun at the OutFront Minnesota Pride
Pavilion. Come say hello to us in the big green and
white tent! While you’re there, vote in our Pride Poll,

AM: Pride Parade Canvassers meet at OutFront
Minnesota Pride Pavilion
Minneapolis, MN, Loring Park
Have
a bagel and a cup of coffee before you and other
volunteers head to the parade route to ask parade
watchers to sign a postcard to their legislators. You
will get a t-shirt and a brief training and everything
else you need to activate and engage people in working
for GLBT equality. We are still looking for a few more
volunteers!!! Just show up on Sunday and we will get you
set up.

AM: Pride Parade

Watch
for those green GET OUT t-shirts—those are OutFront
Minnesota volunteers working to get thousands of
postcards signed to send to legislators about the
anti-marriage amendment. Be sure to sign a postcard and
thank them for their fabulous volunteer work!

PM - 10:00 PM: Gay Pride Block Party
Minneapolis, MN, The Saloon (9th and Hennepin
Avenue)
Amber, Kim English and Thelma Houston will be
performing. DJ Red Richard and host Tinéa will keep the
closing celebration of Pride going. OutFront Minnesota
volunteers and staff will be handing out the last of our
buttons and giving you one last chance to write your
legislator at Pride.

insider's view of the day-to-day work of OutFront
Minnesota...
Last weekend, OutFront Minnesota's Senior Director,
Scott Fearing, attended the first ever Pride celebration
in East Central Minnesota. East Central Men's Circle
organized Picnic in the Park in Pine City to share GLBT
Pride with the communities of East Central Minnesota.
The celebration was a great way to bring people together
and to increase visibility for GLBTA people living in
Hinckley and other surrounding cities. The more visible
GLBTA people are around the state, the more support we
gain for equality. Twin Cities PFLAG and the Rural AIDS
Network also participated in the picnic and Barb Ryman
performed.
