See You at Pride!

The Twin Cities Pride Festival is only a week and a half away. Everyone at OutFront looks forward to meeting you at the OutFront Minnesota Pride Pavilion again located in the heart of Loring Park, next to the giant perennial flower garden. This year at the big green and white community tent, you can see pictures from recent events (including justFair Lobby Day), become a “card-carrying member” of OutFront Minnesota, voice your opinions in our famous marble poll, enjoy a cup of hot or cold coffee as we are the official TC Pride Coffeehouse, and you can get answers to any questions you have about OutFront Minnesota, and our work for you and the GLBTA communities. OutFront Minnesota staff have even scheduled time to be available to answer your questions on Saturday, June 25th. Check our website for a schedule of availability.

We still need volunteers for Pride! A couple hours of volunteering on either Saturday or Sunday gets you one of our HOT, NEW t-shirts, and the satisfaction of helping a worthy cause. We are especially looking for more volunteers on Sunday. Sign-up by emailing Connie Kauppi, Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteer@outfront.org or fill out a volunteer application online.

Last Chance for "Out at the Theatre"

This is your last chance to see a Hollywood actor on a Minneapolis stage for an OutFront Minnesota benefit! In tomorrow night's special performance of Entertaining Mr. Sloane, Justin Kirk will make his Jungle Theater debut as the handsome, streetwise Mr. Sloane. Kirk won an Obie for his performance in Love, Valor and Compassion in New York, and he was nominated for an Emmy for his role in HBO’s Angels in America. Mr. Kirk will be joined on stage by Jungle Artistic Director Bain Boehlke as Kemp, Sally Wingert as Kath, and Richard Iglewski as Kath’s brother Ed.

Walk for Fairness

This fall, for the first time ever, OutFront Minnesota will have a team of walkers at the Headwaters Foundation Walk for Justice. The Walk for Justice is an annual community fundraising event organized by Headwaters as an opportunity for social justice organizations to raise awareness, solidarity, visibility, and financial support for their work.

If you'd like to help OutFront Minnesota raise awareness and money, join our Walk for Justice team! There are no Walker fees or minimum fundraising goal. For more information, contact Laura McCarty, Development Director, at lmccarty@outfront.org or (612) 822-0127, ext. 110.

Inside OutFront
...an insider's view of the day-to-day work of OutFront Minnesota...

Every summer, the staff at OutFront Minnesota looks forward to Pride season. The Prides around the state give us the opportunity to have meaningful conversations with GLBT and allied people from all over about so many critical issues. We also know that an important part of every social change movement is celebration. In Minnesota and throughout the country, GLBT and allied people are using the heightened visibility for GLBT people and the challenging political climate to be more active, take more risks and be more "out" in every way. Now more than ever, it is important that we join together to celebrate, recharge, and inspire each other to keep working for equality.

Monica Meyer, OutFront Minnesota's Public Policy Director, attended Fargo-Moorhead Pride in early June. The festival in Gooseberry Park was attended by hundreds of people from North Dakota and Minnesota. Monica had the opportunity to hear first hand what it was like to be involved in North Dakota's 2004 campaign to stop a constitutional amendment banning marriage and civil unions for same-sex couples and their families. While voters ultimately voted to pass the amendment, the people involved in the campaign had a lot of great work to be proud of and celebrate. Monica also spent time talking with people involved in GLBT and allied Minnesota organizations about the work we can do together to counter the constitutional amendment in Minnesota and promote GLBT equality. The people who stopped by the OutFront Minnesota table shared a lot of great ideas about ways we can engage more people in working for GLBT equality in their community. OutFront Minnesota would like to thank everyone involved in the Pride Collective for organizing a great Pride weekend.
