Conference Committee to Discuss
Comprehensive Sex Ed
On
May 5th, the Senate education omnibus bill (SF
2267), which contains
the Comprehensive Family Life and Sexuality Education
legislation (SF
878), passed the Senate unanimously. However, the
Comprehensive Family
Life and Sexuality Education language was not included
in the House
education omnibus bill. Therefore, it is now up to
members of the K-12
Education Conference Committee to work out these
differences.
The K-12 Education Conference Committee will be
discussing the K-12 Education Finance bill (which
includes the comprehensive sex education legislation),
and they need to hear from you TODAY! With your
help we can pass effective legislation to provide
Minnesota youth with effective sex education that
prevents unintended pregnancies, STDs and HIV.
Additionally, through comprehensive sex ed, GLBT and
questioning youth will be provided the information they
need to stay safe and healthy.
Take Action!
Contact members of the Education Conference Committee
(especially if one of them is your Representative or
Senator) and ask them to support comprehensive sex
education, which provides abstinence education in
addition to medically accurate information about
contraception, HIV and sexually transmitted infections.

Entertaining Mr. Sloane

Volunteering at Pride
A
great way to help your community!
GLBT
Pride/Twin Cities is in 5 short weeks. As one of the
biggest Pride celebrations nationally, Pride represents
a great opportunity for many organizations and
businesses to gain visibility in our GLBT community. One
of the more challenging tasks facing an organizer is
getting enough volunteers to staff a booth throughout
the weekend. For many people, volunteering their time
and talent is something they do for multiple
organizations. Understandably, their services are in
high demand for Pride and many of our most dedicated
volunteers have already told us they cannot be a part of
our Pride effort this year. Since we do so much
organizing at Pride, OutFront Minnesota needs to recruit
enough volunteers to make sure our Pride presence is
meaningful.
The
good news is that Pride is the perfect way to get
involved with volunteering. The crowd is totally
friendly and appreciative. Since we are known as the
leaders in the struggle for GLBT equality in our state,
OutFront Minnesota is a very popular organization with
festival goers. As a volunteer with OutFront, you can
expect many friendly faces, smiles and thank-you's.
Whether you are new to volunteering or only have time
for one event a year, why not make volunteering with
OutFront Minnesota a part of your Pride presence?

hours!

services.

and invite open discussion and dialogue about current
