Star Tribune Poll Shows Increased
Support for Constitutional Amendment
OutFront Minnesota's Response
On
Tuesday, May 10th, the Minneapolis
Star Tribune reported on its latest Minnesota
Poll, indicating that over the last year, support for a
constitutional ban on all legal recognition of same-sex
couples has increased, while support for legal unions
for same-sex couples has decreased.
The results of the poll do not come as a surprise:
conservative groups have been spending huge amounts of
money on their crusade against gay, lesbian, bisexual,
and transgender rights. When backed by enough funding,
scare tactics can work.
Even so, it's important to note that the poll does not
effectively explain the scope and impact of the proposed
amendment. If passed, the constitutional amendment would
permanently discriminate against some of Minnesota’s
families by stating that no legal recognition of
same-sex relationships would be permissible. We know that
polls show greater public support for legal recognition
of same-sex relationships when the rights and
responsibilities of marriage are listed and explained.

Volunteer Opportunities at
Pride
The big Twin Cities Pride Celebration is less than seven
weeks away and that means OutFront Minnesota is gearing
up for another big weekend of outreach, political
action, and fun! As you may remember from past Twin
Cities Pride celebrations, we have a huge Pride Pavilion
where our community members can stop in for coffee,
cookies, lemonade, conversation and fun public policy
activities. We need volunteers to help us out in a few
different areas, all of which are fun and worthwhile.
Please consider helping us out, it means a lot to us at
OutFront to work alongside supporters from our
community. Pride weekend is June 25th and 26th this
year. Sign up for volunteering at Pride on our online
