We're on the Road for Fairness

The Minnesota House of Representatives is taking the first hearing on the 2005 proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage on the road to Grand Rapids, Minnesota on March 18th, 2005. Read more about the hearing at http://www.outfront.org/action/update17.html.

Space at the Myles Reif Performing Arts Center in Grand Rapids will be limited, but OutFront Minnesota and the Itasca GLBTA Alliance are working together to provide overflow space where we can watch the hearing together. We'll let you know as things move forward. In addition, OutFront Minnesota will have approximately 100 tickets to the Myles Reif Performing Arts Center available on a first-come, first-serve basis for those who sign up online on our website after 12 noon on Monday (March 7th); each person may only reserve 2 tickets. People on a waiting list will be notified if additional seats open up.

Take the OutFront Minnesota Bus to Grand Rapids

Be part of the fun. We are sponsoring a bus to the hearing, which will leave from Spirit of the Lakes Church in Minneapolis promptly at 6:15 am on March 18th and return to Spirit of the Lakes at approximately 6 pm. Cost per person will be $15, and each person may only reserve 2 tickets. Reservations to ride the bus will begin at 12 noon on Monday the 7th. All bus riders will receive a ticket to the hearing.

Plan Ahead for justFair Lobby Day on April 7th

What exactly is OutFront Minnesota's justFair Lobby Day? It's our day to let the Legislature know that Minnesota stands up for fairness for its gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) citizens. Nearly 5,000 people will rally on the Capitol lawn at 1 pm. The true power in the day, however, lies in the meetings you attend with your legislators.

Never "lobbied" before? Think of it as building a relationship with the people elected to serve you. And we make it easy. We schedule the appointments, train you, and send you to your meetings with other fair-minded people from your district and a "Lobby Coach." Appointments will be scheduled throughout the day, when legislators are available. Be sure to register soon to help us in our planning.

Buster Update… two upcoming events to view "Sugartime"

On March 23rd, despite the national controversy, Twin Cities Public Television will air the episode of Postcards from Buster that features the cartoon rabbit visiting a girl in Vermont with two moms. OutFront Minnesota is proud of our local PBS affiliate for taking a principled stand on this issue and understands that state legislators are now under pressure from right-wing conservatives to discontinue state support for TPT.

You can support TPT and watch the episode among friends at the following public viewings:

Inside OutFront

…an insider’s view of the day-to-day work of OutFront Minnesota…

Imagine a court case that involves a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender person being presided over by a judge who has a personal membership in an organization that unlawfully discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation. On Sunday, an article in the Saint Paul Pioneer Press detailed attempts of the Minnesota Lavender Bar Association to ensure that all groups that are afforded equal protection under Minnesota's Human Rights Act (including GLBT Minnesotans) can take cases of discrimination to court and trust that judges are neutral in both their personal and professional lives.
