Campaign Update:

Together Minnesota!
It’s About More than Marriage

Join the Community Action Team

Are you frustrated or fearful about the discussions that are happening about the constitutional amendment? Do you feel like there is nothing that you can do to stop the ignorance and engage in helpful action against the amendment?

There is PLENTY that you can do! No matter how full your schedule is there are opportunities for you to become part of the most important statewide GLBT effort to happen in Minnesota in over a decade. (If not in history!)

The first step is for you to attend an upcoming, free, Community Action Training hosted by OutFront Minnesota as part of the TogetherMinnesota! effort. To date there have already been 14 trainings held around the state, and nearly 500 people have been trained to act against the proposed amendment to the Minnesota Constitution. From International Falls to Fairmont, Willmar to Winona, Minnesotans have come together to learn about the proposed amendment, our opponents, and creating effective action.

One exciting trend that has emerged at these Community Action Trainings is that over half of the attendees have been heterosexual-identified allies. Most of them personally know the very real social and economic privileges that the institution of civil marriage has provided in their own lives. Further, many of them are expressing deep frustration and even anger that so many political and spiritual leaders are wasting valuable time, resources and energy trying to deny citizens something so valuable and so basic.

Now is the time for you to join the team fighting the proposed constitutional amendment. Attend an upcoming Community Action Training! Visit us online for the schedule of upcoming classes. Bring a family member, a co-worker, or a neighbor with you!

The TogetherMinnesota! team is now booking classes through the end of May.  If you are interested in having one occur in your faith community, your neighborhood or even your home, let us know! Call Becky at (612) 822-0127 ext 103.

OutFront Minnesota Selected to Receive Allies for Justice Award

The Headwaters Foundation for Justice recently announced that OutFront Minnesota has been selected to receive its Allies for Justice Award. Headwaters honors two organizations each year for constituent leadership, organizing for social change, working in alliance, and demonstrating a consistent and deep commitment to activism and working for social justice. This award would not be possible without the dedication of the thousands of volunteers, activists, members, and donors of OutFront Minnesota. Congratulations—This award is for YOU!

The award will be presented at Headwaters’ Annual Allies for Justice Celebration on Tuesday, May 23rd.

People of Faith Roundtable

Monday, February 27, 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church
4537 3rd Avenue South, Minneapolis

If you are interested in working to ensure that the voices of faith communities opposed to the constitutional amendment are heard, attend this month's People of Faith Roundtable at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Our featured speakers will be from "Catholics for Equality," a coalition of various Catholic organizations supportive of GLBT rights. The panel will address the current climate for GLBT rights within the Catholic Church. Following the panel, there will be an update on faith organizing in Minnesota and time to break into working groups. Because this is the last Roundtable before our Legislative Session begins, it would be a great time to get involved. Register here.

Also, mark your calendars and plan to head over to the Capitol on the morning of March 23. From 7:30 - 9:00 am, we will be meeting at the State Capitol to bring faith communities together to oppose the constitutional amendment and provide an interfaith message that truly supports all Minnesotans. Registration begins next week.

Volunteer for OutFront Minnesota
Want to meet lots of fun-loving people while supporting the work of OutFront Minnesota? Have we got the volunteer opportunity for you!

Continuing their tradition of supporting OutFront Minnesota, the owners of the Saloon in downtown Minneapolis have invited OutFront Minnesota to collect $5 donations from their patrons in lieu of a cover charge on Friday and Saturday nights from 11pm to midnight. We need volunteers each Friday and Saturday night to work the till at the door. OutFront Minnesota staff worked the door last weekend and were pleased by the overwhelmingly positive response from Saloon staff and patrons to our presence.

If you're the type of person we are looking for, you've already figured out that this opportunity will give you the chance to meet everyone coming to the Saloon during the 11 o'clock hour while helping to raise several hundred dollars for OutFront Minnesota.

To volunteer for this new opportunity email our Volunteer Resources Manager, Connie Kauppi or phone her at 612.822.0127 ext 100.

New Data Entry Party Night Added to the Volunteer Schedule!

The bi-weekly Tuesday evening Data Entry Party has been going strong now since July. Thousands of pieces of data have been processed and our database has grown accordingly. The size of our database has a direct relation to the power of our statewide movement. Our organizers, staff and volunteer, are crisscrossing the state collecting the names and contact information of supporters. Their efforts have created a significant backlog of data entry. As a result, we have decided to offer a 2nd Data Entry Party night.

Monday, February 27 will be the inaugural event of the Monday evening Data Entry Party. Like the Tuesday evening DEP, this will take place bi-weekly.

To volunteer for the Monday Evening Date Entry Party, email our Volunteer Resources Manager, Connie Kauppi or phone her at 612.822.0127 ext 100.
