The House Civil Law and Elections Committee is set to vote on the
anti-marriage amendment (House File 0006) on Friday, March 18, 10:30
a.m.-2 p.m.,
Myles Reif
Performing Arts Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. For supporters of
GLBT equality, the committee vote is an opportunity to bring hundreds of
people together who oppose the amendment.
OutFront Minnesota has heard concerns from allies and community members
that the location of the committee meeting will be to our disadvantage.
To the contrary, OutFront Minnesota believes this is a great opportunity
to show that support for GLBT rights is truly statewide.
The myth that people who care about GLBT issues exist only in the Twin
Cities is one that OutFront Minnesota and many others have worked to
dispel. The staff of OutFront Minnesota has had the great fortune to
work with the
Itasca GLBTA Alliance for years. This group has successfully worked
to promote civil rights, full equality and justice for GLBT people and
their allies in the Grand Rapids area. The Itasca GLBTA Alliance and
OutFront Minnesota are using this vote in Grand Rapids to prove that
Minnesotans want a fair and just state for everyone. In a political
climate where tolerance for GLBT people is contested across the country,
let us join together to prove that compassion and justice are true
Minnesota values. The Reif theater seats over 600, so there will be
plenty of room for GLBT supporters to be seen.
While comments from attendees will not be allowed, OutFront Minnesota
has worked with the Itasca GLBTA Alliance to arrange a panel of
qualified experts to address the committee. Additionally, signs and
banners will not be allowed into the auditorium. Your presence is what
matters. Fair-minded people should come prepared to watch the committee
hearing and wear a sticker or button in support of GLBT rights.
OutFront Minnesota will be coordinating a bus to take Twin Cities
supporters to the hearing, and we encourage our supporters from all
across the state to join us in Grand Rapids. Watch our website for more
details on the schedule of the day and transportation.
OutFront Minnesota would like to thank the Itasca GLBTA Alliance for all
of their important work and the Myles Reif Center for being a gracious
host of this historic event. |
